Lessons learned through the practices of international-ized jurisdictions and their possible impact on the future of the permanent jurisdiction of the ICC characterized the concept of the Turin 2007 Conference on International Criminal Justice.

In the following years, a similar approach has been adopted by a number of initiatives in the field, which have captured specific aspects of the challenges for international criminal justice.

Along the same comprehensive lines of the 2007 Conference, an important editorial project has also been completed, which includes an unprecedented analysis conducted with the original contributions of many among the leading figures in the field: international and national judges, prosecutors and other officials, as well as prominent scholars and diplomats.

In R. Bellelli (ed.), International Criminal Justice: Law and Practice from the Rome Statute to its Review (Farnham: ASHGATE, May 2010), many of the leading figures who participated in the 2007 Conference have contributed in the framework of a structured and complete analysis which offers and in-depth view on the system of international criminal justice, on its achievements, and on possible ways to address a number of its most sensitive challenges.

The introductory Chapter 1 is accessible through this page, in order to provide readers with a clearer picture of the contribution of the Volume to the lively debate and activities surrounding international criminal justice.
